*****************************************************************************

:bulletblue:Phase One - HUNGARY
(Gyulakeszi/Royale Pirate Stables, Alps of Austria, Wolfsberg)
:bulletblue: Distance: 240 km, starting at Gyulakeszi (Royale Pirate Stables) and heading into the Alps of Austria to Wolfsberg.
:bulletblue: Weather forecast:
Global warming sends it's craziest greetings. The first 3 days are frosty after leaving RPS but the 4th morning will be surprisingly mild..melting the snow. Rain will follow and freeze in the night...the entire time until the entrants reach the mountains rainy days mixed with snow and icy nights. You hopefully brought some clothes to change because wet wont even be the right term for this occasion

:bulletblue: Entry Picture:
Keep your backgrounds to the reference pictures linked in the main Journal!
Hungary is mostly flat-land and gets more hills towards Austria. The weather is a mix of rain and snow and icy nights,
some mornings will offer a bizarre view of ice-covered trees and a challenge to get it off your tent too.

:star: Phase two - AUSTRIA
(Wolfsberg, Obertauern, Salzburg)
Bullet; Blue Distance: 250 km, Starting at the station in Wolfsberg and heading to Salzburg, crossing Obertauern.
Bullet; Blue Weather forecast:Now that you are a few more meters above the hungarian flatland you also escape the grey, low-hanging rain cloudsover the region. From the Austrian Alps you can look down on the top of the thick clouds that cover the valleys. It is mostly sunshine and later a lot of snow. The closer to Obertauern the more snow, up to 150 cm!! Temperatures vary from -5 to -18°C
Bullet; Blue Entry Picture: Draw your Team recover from the muddy mess in Hungary. Here the sky is clear and lots of WHITE as the name of the event actually suggests. Tourist-friendly awesome skiing weather with towering pine trees and clouds hiding in the valleys below the caravan.A feeling like you are on high rocks in the ocean.

:star: Phase three - TRANSPORTATION
(salzburg, train to Denmark and Ferry over to Oslo Harbour)
:bulletblue:  After countless hours on horseback its finally nice to have a few days travelling with more comfort. The train will bring both you and your fourlegged friend safely and with style to the ferry harbour in Denmark. There you take the ferry to Oslo harbour for the next and final phase of the trail. Even the most roughened mentor seems to have muscle sores and minor health issues bugging them. This transportation phase opens up for opportunities to socialize, catch some sleep and restitute your body for the upvoming challenges to come. The sea across the ocean to norway is calm and should not cause any sea sickness, but if you have a sensitive stomach you may concider taking a pill before getting aboard -just in case.

:bulletblue: Entry Picture: Restitution is the key word for this phase. You get the chance to rest out sore muscles and tend to health issues like sore heels, blemishes and so the like. You may also kill some time by socializing with other people. Some might spend time playing a shady round of poker, others might want their peace and quiet or perhaps you rather fall asleep with your horse in the equine transportation box? It is optional if you want to bring the horse on the transportation phase. You may bring your austria-horse and leave it either at Salzburg to pick up your norway-horse, or bring your austria-horse to Oslo harbour and do the swapping there. Spend your time wisely and regain energy, its not over yet!

:star: Phase four - NORWAY
(Lillehammer, Sjusjøen/Nordseter, Ringebu, Venabu, Dørjuvet, Nattvik)
Bullet; Blue Distance: 220 km, starting at Oslo, heading towards Nattvik through the mountains.
:bulletblue: Weather forecast: -17'C at day, dropping to -25'C to -30'C at night. Sunrise at 08.00. Sunset at 16.00.
Norway will not disappoint in regard of snow depth this year. It has been a dry and cold autumn, causing the frost to settle deep into the ground. This means when snow arrived in mid-October, already by the first snowfall the snow stayed. The lakes all froze up rather early as well, and by December the lakes sould all be secure enough to walk across - but please make sure to drill a hole every now and then for safety checks on how thick the ice really is. Sometimes underwater streams may prevent ice to get thick enough to bear the weight of a horse and rider. For the scenery, there is snow everywhere you see, and the further you travel, the deeper the snow will get. In Lillehammer it will be knee-high but by the time you reach the mountains the snow will reach you to the hips and possibly even further. In general the weater is sunny, biting cold and the air is crystal clear so you can see a lot. However, the mountains are unpredictable. Strong wind will pick up by the evening and through the night blizzards will storm, covering your tracks from just minutes ago. At the deepest the snow will be aproximately 2 meters deep. Sun rises at 08.00 and sets at 16.00, so be prepared to bring a lantern or flashlight as well!

:bulletblue: Entry Picture: Stay true to the information given above and show us how your rider and horse cope with the unpredictable norwegian weather. Will they make sure to camp and get some rest before the strong winds and occational blizzards start storming? Or perhaps they are enjoying the few hours of sunshine Norway has to offer? Maybe the pass by one of the snowed-in cabins and bless themselves they dont have to dig out the cabin's door and windows? A herd of wild reindeers is known to roam the mountains, if you are lucky you might spot traces of them!

So this year we do not have a team of pack-horses + a ridden one, but we switch horses between phases and only have one shown at a time? Or two, if the newbie amd their horse are counted in.

Correct! you only have one horse at a time + feature the newbie rider and its horse in the obligatory entries (or for newbies they show mentor and mentor's horse) :D

Ohhh, I am sooo ready for thisss
For Phase 3; Any chance it would be possible to do the horse swap in the ferry harbour in Denmark instead of Salzburg/Oslo? It would probably be the easiest for my team, since their stable is located there :D

But of course! The horse swapping is to happen anytime during this phase, people are free to chose when that happens, either Salzburg, denmark or Oslo! :la:

For the first phase, do we need to draw them all travelling, or can I do a picture like they are going to sleep, lit tent, tied ponies, etc? I just want to make sure before I invest time into it that it would be accepted XD

Odd question, but for an event like this do the pack horses have to be directly led by the rider/main horse? It seems safer to have them following behind without being tied to the main pair in the event that one of them falls/spooks/gets tangled up and could put other horses in danger but I figured I'd ask in case theres some rule against loose horses xD

no odd question at all xD
and it's up to the rider to know if their horse is easily spooked and might run and scare even more horses, or if they can follow all calm whatever happens.

Alrighty good xD It's my ridden horse that's still in baby mode so it would probably save my pack horses sanity if they weren't attached to him

Omg!! Excited!! :D for the entry going through deep snow, do the packing horses have to be seen? I may have an idea involving only a little bit of them visible ;D

Are horseshoes with metal studs mandatory for Norway if the horses are used to being barefoot in winter?

We don't shoe our horses in winter due to the fact that they gather up snow inside the shoe and can cause them to walk difficult or make them prone to slipping. Being barefoot gives them better gription on snow and ice, and they are used to being barefoot.

Helloo)
Well, then i`ve got some little questions.

1 If Vidar is the leader of the group.. are we allowed to depict him in picture too?

2 "you can include wild obertaurers. Maybe your rider fancies one? They can take a picture and send in a request to RPS if they could catch that horse, with some luck, for an import." (c)
How technically this thing goes? I mean, we are free to depict wild horses with any approved for obertaurers coat colors? And if we`d like to get one of wild ones, how we should do this?

3 Which animals we can meet during all the trail& I mean, foxes - are the most dangerous from predators line& So we need to be worry of some crazy aggressive deers?)

4 And the last - about transportation - are al three horses.. well. two are transported from one station to another, while you riding third?

Ahooy imma try to answer these nicely :giggle:

1 Yes you are allowed to draw Vidar too but if your chars are interacting with him in the pic (talking to him, throwing a snowball LOL then it would be nice to tell me what you want to draw them doing :giggle: )

2 Yes if you include a picture of your rider spotting a horse they wish to have you can request a wild horse with it (if people draw some unaccepted/not existing Obertaurer colours then the design migth change to something thats possible)

3 in hungary or Austria its nothing too dangerous and most animals will hide if the riders are in a group (foxes, wild boars) or as you say some agressive deers. In Norway there will be an extra assignment (if you get there) to have an oppurnity meeting really dangerous ones.

4 Your rider has a horse at the start in hungary. the second horse waits at the austrian station in a warm stable and there will be a horse switch. the third horse is either waiting at the trainstation that leaves to norway oor it can wait in a stable near the harbor where the last stage starts. So all horses have a relaxed start ^^

Haha - throwing snowball in leader - very fanny. And a first thing on a to do list X) Okay. Then i`ll note you if mr Vidar won`t be just a handsome silhuette X)

Everything else got quite clear) Thank you)
And the last one - about first assignment - the station - what is it look like& Or it is just a so called place to make a camp there?)
